Mykonos Island
Welcome to Mykonos one of the most famous and cosmopolitan islands of the Cyclades group which is widely recognized as one of the great travel Meccas.
Mykonos Town (Chora) is a stunningly picturesque Cycladic town with tiny streets and whitewashed steps lanes, houses and churches, gathered around its harbour in the middle of a wide bay. It is one of the most cosmopolitan and crowded towns of the Aegean with great nightlife. Full of little shops, boutiques, art galleries, cafes, stylish bars and restaurants, Mykonos Town maintains its’ traditional Cycladic architectural style. Here you will find all high-end brands.
Visit Ano Mera which is a small village on the middle of the island just 7 km east of Mykonos Town and the monastery of Panagia Tourliani, founded in 1542, Ano Mera’s most significant highlight.
Other villages you cannot miss are : Agios Ioannis, famous as the location for the movie “Shirley Valentine”,Agios Stefanos with many hotels, taverns and cafes, Platys Gialos, a popular tourist resort, Ornos with several choices for accommodation, food and drink, Tourlos , where most of the cruise ships and private yachts dock.
Don’t miss the opportunity to treat yourself to some local specialties like pepper flavoured kopanistí, a soft cheese seasoned with pepper or for the meat eaters “loúzes” (cooked pork filet with spices) and tasty local sausages sprinkled with pepper, and local oregano that has been caressed by the sun and dried in the north wind.
Very close to Mykonos you will find the tiny archaeological gem of Delos which can only be reached with a boat, an ancient sacred island that according to the mythology was the birthplace of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis.
